McCall Cemetery---Geocaching fun

I'm far away from my speech office; on vacation; sipping wine; watching the Olympics in my in-laws' family room.  I do have a few ideas for new speech therapy materials in mind, but these haven't yet evolved to the publishing stage yet---wait a couple of weeks and I'll be exploding with materials and ideas to share!

For now, I just want to describe my latest Geocaching adventure.  David and I took a little hiking trip into Pisgah National Forest today.  Our goal was a cemetery which used to be on a Civil War era farm---McCall Cemetery.  This was a cool hike there on a beautiful day.   Again, had it not been for geocaching, I never would have experienced moments such as this.

For a more descriptive account of this cemetery, go HERE

I would love to be able to look back into time to see the people and the lives they led!

  1. Hi Ruth, I just came across your post about my family's cemetery in the Pisgah National Forest. I love going there when I visit NC. I have a few photos I could post. One of my aunts, Edna McCall Grogan, was the teacher at a 1 room school house there in the forest. The actual school house was part of the Cradle of Forestry until several years ago when it was lost to a fire. :( My Daddy was 1 of 11 children of Ananias McCall (all 11 deceased). I can only imagine how they lived on that mountain and how they got those caskets up to that cemetery!

    1. I love blogging for this reason! If you would like to post a few pictures here, I can do it for you, giving you full credit, and updating this blog entry. My inlaws live in Brevard, and we love hiking around in the area. It's very beautiful, all seasons of the year.
