Spring Activity/Literacy Packet--Great for EC/SLP Collaboration

Spring is nearly here, and I've made a new packet, great for your more linguistically challenged children. This has two interactive books, a rainbow craft activity, and a variety of visuals for each part.  I also made a sequencing task, and comprehension questions for the craft.  This should keep the kids busy while working on many goals!

As I worked through this, I discovered that when kids make the rainbow as I've described in the packet, they can learn to order the pieces from smallest to largest.  That was an awesome bonus to the craft activity!

Here is the description for the packet:

This is an literacy/activity pack for the thematic unit of Spring. This pack meant for the more linguistically challenged students and is perfect for speech/OT or speech/special ed collaboration. This is nice for integrating literacy and hand-on activities. You are purchasing two interactive books and a craftivity with an assortment of visual supports for all. Most clipart

Cute Penguins and Verbs---Kids will love this! Free Printable Interactive Book

It's still winter, even in North Carolina!

Penguins have a cuteness factor, unmatched with most animals,  so I have made a free book for all of you out there in the trenches.

You need to download "What Can Penguins Do?".  It has real pictures, and you can print it out and turn it into an interactive book.  Go to town with it---get out your own kid's stuffed penguin and reenact this book! Have your students act it out. I have wonderful icons from Smarty Symbols to match with the photos in the book to make this interactive.

For higher level kids, print it out, but don't show the sentences to them. Have them write it or dictate what is happening.  Many possibilities exist with penguins!

This book is available on Tarheel Reader (no icons, and  pictures are somewhat different). Tarheel Reader does have Text to Speech features, so read it there if that's what you need.

If you want the version to print out with icons to make it interactive, then go HERE.  Icons are created by Smarty Symbols.  Use them only for the purpose of making this book interactive. Symbols are copyrighted.

Use Your Connect 4 Game During Articulation Therapy

At my school, we have 'speech lab' for those kids who don't qualify for an IEP but still have a single sound disorder that impacts their education.  For many of those students, it's 'R'.  My speech lab students generally are smart and cooperative, and also like to have fun.  To accomplish the 'fun' goal along with the 'R' goal, I've developed "R Sound Drop-In".  Use with a standard Connect 4 game that you or a fellow teacher may have handy.  This activity has saved me a lot of time, it gives the kids lots of practice, and they like it.  I hope your students like it too!

Although this post describes the "R Sound Drop-In", I have two similar products--
"S-Blend Drop In"   and "L and L-Blend Drop In".

Here's the description:  This is an articulation game for the 'R' sound.  It is meant to be used with a Connect 4 game.  You must provide your own Connect 4 game.

Directions:
1. pick the sheet for the sound you want to target (one for each child). For more than two children, play in teams. Set it up as shown in the picture on the cover. There are 15 words per sheet for each target sound.
2. Cover each picture with a disk from the game.
3. Play the game according to the standard Connect 4 directions.  As the child picks up a circle, have him say the name of the picture underneath. To get more practice, he can say it multiple times or use the word in a sentence.  Play the game several times since it can go fast.
