I've worked with children who have disabilities for a long time, and have never seen a story like this. It's about a girl with autism named Carly who was apparently unable to communicate with words until about twelve. At that time she started typing, and this skill really developed after she was reinforced to communicate this way. She started typing in paragraphs---very eloquent ones. Little did anyone know what thoughts and feelings were trapped inside her body! Now she has her own website, attends regular classes, and is helping her dad write a book. I would love to meet her!
She said on her website that she carries on conversations using her laptop, but uses an iPad when walking the school hallways or making simple requests.
